The goal of the MAVERIC Core Laboratory
is to maximize the scientific value of biological specimen. The Core Laboratory is part of a program-wide effort to standardize the methods for research with, and storage of, biospecimens in VA studies.
The Core Lab is a full service repository, from study planning to analysis. In the course of collecting over 500,000 samples, the Core Laboratory has developed standard operating procedures for bio-sample collection, processing, and storage that can be used across studies. Recently, the CSP announced plans to extend the Core Lab with the addition of two liquid handling robots and storage capacity of up to 6 million samples.
Laboratory capabilities include: coordination of collection, processing, shipment, and storage of serum, plasma, buffy coats and other biological specimens; extraction of DNA from blood, tissue, or serum buffy coat; extraction of RNA and genotyping.
